General Skilled Migration is for skilled workers who wish to migrate to Australia permanently. Assessment is based on points and include age, qualifications, English level, work experience and so on.

Basic Eligibility
The applicant need to first lodge an expression of interest and then be invited to apply through SkillSelect. Information on the expression of interest cannot be updated, changed or deleted.
If an invitation is offered to the applicant, within 60 days an application for the visa must be lodged.
For the General Skilled Migration, at the time of invitation:
- the applicant must have not turned 45 years of age
- the applicant must have at least competent English
- or within the 60 day invitation period if relying on the decision of Thapa v Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs [2021] FCCA 686 demonstrate a suitable skills assessment assessed by the relevant assessing authority for a nominated occupation:
- Skilled Independent visa (189)
- Skilled Nominated visa (190)
